Which UK retailers are thriving on facebook and twitter?

In terms of follower and fan numbers, Topshop’s social media strategy appears to be working well. It has the most followers on Twitter and Facebook fans of any UK retailer. According to a new Social Media Benchmark study by eDigital Research (registration/survey required), retailers are continuing to grow their presence on social networks, though less than half are currently offering consumers the option of shopping from these accounts. The 8 worst twitter PR fails

Some brands deftly craft their Twitter presence. Bank of America’s @BofA_Help account, for example, has come to be seen as an effective forum where customers’ concerns are quickly addressed and solved. Tweeting with the telly on

The days of families reverentially gathered around the box may be long gone but the doom-mongers who said that on-demand would kill linear TV completely may also be somewhat off the mark. A new generation of viewers is watching what has been dubbed social TV – a synthesis between TV and social networking. A recent study from marketing agency Digital Clarity found that 80% of under-25s used a second screen to communicate with friends while watching TV and 72% used Twitter, Facebook or a mobile app to comment on shows. Poor customer service means more complaints on social media: study

According to a survey, while 83% of consumers expect businesses to work harder to keep them since the recession, just 5% of think that customer service has improved over the last three years. The channels that customers are using to complain are changing too. While 41% of people will make a complaint by phone and 63% by email, 20% take to social media sites to have a good old moan to friends and family. This means more negative comments about companies and highlights the need for customer service improvements, as well as policies to monitor and respond to complaints on social media channels.
